I have seen auditions and dive bar acts and all sorts of things trivialized all the dues paid and now even by the ones who paid them, I see greater politicization; now this goes for most if not all of entertainment, nothing is 100%. Why Favor's, owing second city like a call from a cult, sure it believes Mental Health Team/Car 87 duty, but really. Is Second City a single Chicago Theatre for Standup anymore, is it quaint? Or is it ain't? Why in Ormazd's name is going on with the freedom dependent entertainment worlds? Does it matter anymore? Does it matter when the open mike night puts you on TV like a Feature act takes years to in the form one character as another and often at that point in the 2 liners and occasional 5 page or more? Or audition, or anything else similar? For god sakes now-a-days you need to speak to 3 or 4 MCs to get one Open Mike Night at Yuk Yuks because of the bureacrasy comedy has become. Change is fine, but extremities? Cabinet shuffles at the Cabaret? Second City is attached to Comedy Shuffles (talk about amnesty, seen the daily show, no not Jones; Bee sucks) anyhow, Canadian illegals made legal via Second City and Comedy Central, I might be kidding to make a point, but frankly that's that? Is anything not a Viacom-Second City Project in Comedy.
I am a Comedian in sense, I write my own jokes, I do them show or not for survival and shirts and practice just in case revolution happens against this machine. I prefer Humorist because of this crap. Comedy is not collective it requires independent souls full of free will and freedom of mind. More and more I see the horror of celebritization and less funny and more faustian displays of you do this and I let you do this, Will Farrell and Adam Sandler are cases of deal making, others may be on the presumption that they just owe, although with the earlier two as examples how would they know they earned it without some deep existential thought. What else is keeping a confidence man labeled funny, Sasha Cohen, aka Borat also getting away with ripping people off not even giving people scale to be on a thing set up as a "Comedy." When Michael Moore did TV Nation and the Awful Truth at least they weren't fictious, just silly and in the interviewees face. A Libertarian Party member here we have an emphasis of opposing force and fraud against another, will Libertarian Lawyer Bob Barr take him to court? Will Second City-Viacom get him a lawyer? Is SAG letting Second City play Comedian Agency?
[by the way I forgot to mention once the SAG awards, interesting how Liberal Celebrities will use the dues of the little guy to get more freebies and statues. One line to successful character actors of humble life. Like the Acedemy isn't a bad enough fluff job]
Frankly this is Theatre Grown to Cult or Corporate Bureacrasy or both, and why anyone with any self res....any common sen....needing freedom to work would tolerate this, is a wonder.
